Who we are. [LEGAL NAME], [ADDRESS], is the data controller for personal data collected through realteanews.pages.dev. Contact: [CONTACT EMAIL]. ICO registration: [ICO REGISTRATION STATUS].
What we collect
- Contact form: your name, email address, topic, the article link if you give one, and your message.
- Technical data: our hosting provider keeps short-lived request logs, such as IP address, browser type and the time of the request, to run and protect the site. The contact form also uses your IP address for rate limiting to block spam.
We don't use analytics, advertising, tracking pixels or social media embeds that track you. You don't need an account to read the site.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
| Purpose | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Reading and replying to your message | Legitimate interests (responding to people who contact us) |
| Handling complaints and correcting articles | Legitimate interests (keeping our journalism accurate and accountable) |
| Keeping the site and contact form secure, and blocking spam | Legitimate interests (running a safe, working site) |
| Meeting legal obligations, or defending legal claims if needed | Legal obligation or legitimate interests |
Where your message goes
Messages from the contact form go to the editor's inbox at [CONTACT EMAIL]. Our editor reads them and decides what to do with them. We won't publish your name or message without your permission, unless the law requires it.
Tips and whistleblower emails you choose to send go to tonyadamsjournalist@mail.grokbot.com. We only get what you put in the email. Our tips and whistleblower contact pages have no forms.
Who we share it with
- [INBOX PROVIDER]: hosts the contact inbox (processor).
- Cloudflare, Inc. (Cloudflare Pages): hosts the website and handles request logs (processor).
- Professional advisers, or authorities where the law requires.
We don't sell your data.
International transfers
Our providers may process data outside the UK, including in the US. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards in their terms, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement. [Confirm for each provider.]
How long we keep it
- Contact form messages: 30 days, then deleted.
- Messages about an open complaint or correction: kept until the matter is closed, then deleted within 30 days. We may keep a brief record of the correction, with no names or email addresses, in our public corrections list.
- Request logs: [LOG RETENTION], kept by our hosting provider.
Calendar files
Our Programme page offers "Add to calendar" files (.ics) and a subscription feed. They're plain files: downloading one sets no cookies. If you subscribe to the feed, your calendar app will check it from time to time, and our hosting provider will see those requests in its normal request logs.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your personal data;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- restrict how we use it;
- move it to another provider (portability).
You can also object to how we use it. Some rights don't apply in every situation, including where journalism exemptions apply. To use your rights, email [CONTACT EMAIL]. We'll reply within one month.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first at [CONTACT EMAIL]. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
The site isn't aimed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
