SAMPLE ARTICLE: What you can ask us to do with your data under the Data Protection Act 2018

SAMPLE content for the private preview. This article shows how a dated correction note appears on an RTN article and on the Corrections page.

This is a SAMPLE article for the private preview. It is not news.

The Data Protection Act 2018 sits alongside the UK GDPR and governs how organisations in the UK handle personal data. If you are unhappy with how an organisation has handled your data, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) explains how to complain on its website.

This sample exists to show what happens when we get something wrong. The first version of this sample gave the wrong year for the Act. Rather than quietly editing it, we:

  1. fixed the text;
  2. added a dated correction note at the end of the article, saying what changed and why;
  3. showed a “Corrected” date next to the byline;
  4. listed the article on our Corrections page.

Correction, 23 October 2026: SAMPLE correction. An earlier version of this sample article said the Data Protection Act was passed in 2017. In fact, it is the Data Protection Act 2018. We have corrected this.
